Now, we don’t quite know when we can expect update 2.0 to be out, but I hope it will be out before the end of the year. Which is where this update gets its name from. There will be a proper progression from levies to a professional army, which in reality the Roman only had after the Punic Wars and the Marian reforms. Without a doubt, it’ll definitely have an impact on the pace of the game. Once you’ve unlocked the associated law, these armies, called Legions will do a much better job fighting for your faction than levies. Of course, Republics and Monarchies get access to professional armies eventually. There’s a real cost to keeping levies raised for too long, so you want to have quick wars so your pops can get back to work. Raised levies also are exempt from migration, assimilation, conversion, and starvation. On the other hand, raising levies don’t cost you anything other than a tiny bump of war exhaustion. Nice touch! I mean I normally am not one to celebrate the horrors of war, but you know… anything to make Imperator interesting.
The human cost of war is emphasised a lot more. The pop that is recruited also can’t contribute to the economy while it is raised.
